Today Is The Day!

So, today is the day. The day I begin writing on a blog. My first blog.

My motivation to get this party started was plain and simple.
Weight Loss.

My best friend has found so much support through her blog, during hard times, celebrations, job changes, & her first pregnancy. I thought that I might reap the rewards of such support as well as find enjoyment, motivation, and satisfaction in sharing my weight loss journey with you.

The reason I want and need to lose weight is because:

A) I miss my "old self", the self from my outdoor education days....the daily mountain bike rides self....and marathon runner self.

B) I want to have a BABY. I want my body to be healthy during pregnancy for myself and for the baby. And, I want my body to be able to "bounce back" after pregnancy (I'm sure mothers out there are laughing at me right now...but just let me pretend this is true in my delusional world).

C) Dude, I am 26 and have HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. WTF!?!?

I haven't always been overweight....but I've never been "skinny". The body I am comfortable in is an athletic one. I like the feeling of having endurance for outdoor activities, playing with my niece and nephew, and life in general...and I find that I am at my best (physically & emotionally) when in a solid and consistent exercise program.

In the last 4 years I've gained about 30lbs. The majority of the weight gain happened in the last 2 years during Nursing School....AKA the HELL YEARS. I am totally an emotional eater....my body SCREAMS for carbs and mochas and chocolate and cupcakes when I am stressed. Now that the HELL YEARS are over...the time is right. I am ready to lose weight and be healthy.

So, my goal is to lose weight through exercise & diet...specifically: yoga, running, hiking, biking, strength training and the "Best Life Diet". I think it's important to have a well rounded approach to lifestyle changes and I have the experience behind me through nursing school, a personal training course with the American College of Sports Medicine, and years of working at fitness facilities. These experiences all together create a pretty awesome foundation for me to start this process the RIGHT WAY. As far as "The Best Life Diet" being my diet of choice.... I have come to really appreciate how Bob (yeah, Oprah's Bob) approaches weight loss and dietary changes. I'll write more about that in days to come.

Now to the rough part...the MOMENT OF TRUTH.....my weight now and my goal weight. You ready? Here goes nothing..............

CURRENT WEIGHT: 186.9 lbs
GOAL WEIGHT: 150lbs

*whew* that wasn't so bad.

Sweeps,

Save the cupcakes for another day and time and things will change quickly. Hopefully we can do a little biking or paddling this summer to melt off the cookies from Christmas. I am so proud of you and your accomplishments, keep it up Bub !!

Yeah! You did it! And I LOVE the name--very 'you'.

Rock on sistah. And hey, you and I can go hiking with the babe once he's born and the weather is nice. Then we can teach him all about hibernating squirrels. . .or not.

You'll do great--this will TOTALLY help!

I love your blog! You know I've been with you every step of the way during the HELL years, and my body has been through that same emotional eating binge. I know what you mean about those cupcakes, and remember the incident with the giant chocolate chip cookie after clinicals? You've inspired me to take before pictures of myself as I try to lose the pounds I've packed on. Your blog is a great inspiration to become physically, mentally and spiritually healthy.
I also love the name!

Thanks Michelle!!

As I always say, I couldn't have made it throught the HELL years without you...you were my right hand gal the whole way. I love that you thought of the ravenous giant chocolate chip cookie binge!! My mouth can taste its goodness right now!!
I'm glad that you like the blog and that it has inspired you to take before pictures....that makes me really happy.

Yay! I found you via Samantha :) Good luck in your journey- I just lost the rest of my baby/pregnancy weight (about 40 pounds) and I used Weight Watchers Online- not sure if you've ever checked it out, but it REALLY helped.

OK, I think I need to join in there with you.

Problem is... whenever I think about starting a new "plan" for getting in shape or eating better, I get all anxious and start eating MORE and WORSE.

You commented on my C4 blog, but you can follow the link to my regular blog too.

Welcome- and let's get this workout started! =)

Hi and welcome to the internet!! I found you through Samantha's blog so I thought I'd say Hi. You are one brave soul for putting numbers up like that, go you!

Hi Kristin! I found you via Samantha too. :) I wish you the best of luck with weight loss. I was about 15-20 lb overweight growing up; I somehow managed not to gain any weight during college, despite nursing being hell, like you said! In 2004, I lost 40 lb (dropped from 183 lb to 143 lb), which you can read about here if you are ever bored, and kept it off for a year before getting pregnant. Then I lost all 51 lb after pregnancy (which I wrote about at my current blog, here). So I've been on both sides and I'll be cheering you on! Good luck, you can do this!! :)

Saw your comment on Swistle and thought I’d stop by. I admire your bravery in tracking this journey. I’m also trying to loose weight right now for a lot of the same reasons, I miss my old self (especially when I see pictures from a few years ago) and I want to have a baby. Like you, I also want my body to be healthy during the pregnancy and to be able to bounce back afterwards. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
